Be The Good Soil

- Mark 4 -

All through the history of salvation, there are very few persons whose comings were foretold and prophesied by the prophets of old. One of them aside from Jesus and John de Baptist is, the Blessed Virgin Mary. Foretold and prophesied in the first leaves of the book of Genesis, she stands as the hope of victory of the human race over sin and evil. This goes a long way to explain her virginity (purity) which can be compared to that of the bride of Christ (2 Corinthians 11:2) and Ephesians 5:27) [talk for another day] presented to the Father. The evil in the world that led to the deception and expulsion of the human race from the place of peace was prophesied to be defeated by her who is the offspring of the first woman (Genesis 3:15). The prophecy further developed with Isaiah who writes about her as a sign (Isaiah 7:14), not just a sign but a miraculous sign that cannot be denied, a sign given by God for the fall of evil. This sign is further developed by John in his apocalypse where he talks of a great sign that appeared in the sky, a woman adorned with the sun and wearing a crown of 12 stars standing on the moon (Revelation 12:1). To fall in line with what Isaiah says, he promises that the woman is with child (v.2). John mentions that this sign appeared in the sky, not somewhere hidden but where everyone can see it. The blessed virgin is for all who seek her a sure sign of hope and victory over the forces of darkness and John paints next to her the evil one ready to devour but he fails to do so and the virgin triumphs over him. In this picture, our lady keeps the baby safe and neither she nor the child are touched by the evil one. So too, it is with all who hand themselves to her as children for her protection. She doesn’t only keep them safe from the attacks of the evil one but she becomes for them a sure source of light and direction to help them find their way. Her sign can be likened to that of her son who appeared in the same sky and led the three wise men to him giving them direction on the way (Matthew 3:1-10). Notice that the star did not just lead the wise men to Jesus but also to Mary who was very present at the place (v.11). Our Blessed Mother is not just a person but THE SIGN given to the human race and a sure refuge for safety and protection. I enjoin you to fly to her protection for you and your families. May our Blessed Mother, God’s sign of deliverance from evil intercede for us now and forever. Amen. Mother Mary, miracle of God, pray for us.
