Patron saints of mothers and pregnant women

Saints Perpetua and Felicity were early Christian martyrs who lived in the Roman province of Africa in the third century. Perpetua was a young noblewoman and mother, while Felicity was her pregnant servant. Both women were arrested for their Christian faith and refused to renounce their beliefs, even in the face of torture and death.

Despite facing great hardships, including imprisonment and torture, Saints Perpetua and Felicity remained steadfast in their faith. Perpetua wrote an account of her experiences while in prison, which has become known as “The Passion of Saints Perpetua and Felicity.” In this account, she describes her visions of heaven and her deep spiritual convictions.

The two women were eventually sentenced to death in the arena, where they were killed by wild animals. Their steadfast faith and courage in the face of persecution have made them revered saints in the Christian tradition. They are often depicted together in art, symbolizing their friendship and solidarity in martyrdom.

Saints Perpetua and Felicity are remembered and honored for their unwavering commitment to their faith, even in the face of extreme suffering. Their example serves as an inspiration to the Church around the world to remain faithful and courageous in the midst of persecution and adversity.
