Saint Peter Damian was a Benedictine monk, cardinal, and Doctor of the Church who lived in Italy during the 11th century. He was known for his great intellect, strict adherence to monastic discipline, and his writings on reforming the clergy. He played a key role in the Gregorian Reform movement which sought to purify and strengthen the Church. St. Peter Damian was canonized by Pope Leo XII on March 21, 1828.
