Saint Cyril of Jerusalem was a fourth-century bishop and doctor of the Church. He was born around 315 in Jerusalem and was ordained a priest around 345. He became the bishop of Jerusalem in 349.
Saint Cyril’s steadfast defense against the heresy of Arianism and his unwavering commitment to the truth of the Catholic faith have earned him a place of honor among the great theologians and teachers of the Church. His teachings and writings serve as a valuable resource for us seeking to deepen their understanding of the faith.
He was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1882 by Pope Leo XIII. His feast day is celebrated on March 18th.
Today the Church honors and remembers him for his courage, wisdom, and fidelity to Christ, and we ask for his intercession in our own journey of faith. May his example of holiness and dedication to the Gospel inspire us to follow in his footsteps and proclaim the truth of Christ to the world.
St Cyril of Jerusalem, pray for us.
